I am a passionate Environmental and Civil Engineer with a strong desire to protect and preserve nature.
Hi, my name is Manisha Kumar. I am a passionate Environmental and Civil Engineer with a strong desire to protect and preserve nature. I was born and raised in a small village in Kerala, India, a state that is often known as “God’s Own Country” for its breathtaking natural beauty, diverse landscape, and immense wildlife.
Growing up in Kerala, I always felt deeply connected with nature and had a strong desire to work towards protecting it and collaborating with communities from a young age. However, I was disheartened by the lack of government initiatives and knowledge in managing waste and water in my hometown. Waste was often burned openly, and water was taken from depleting underground resources.
To pursue my dream of creating a positive impact in the environment and to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies, I migrated to Sydney, Australia, to pursue a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering after completing my Bachelor's in Civil Engineering in India. During my studies, I worked on multiple research projects in circular key economy aimed at reusing waste and finding natural water treatment processes for rural communities and replacing chemicals.
After completing my studies, I started working in Environmental Engineering in the construction industry, gaining more knowledge in managing air, noise, soil, and water quality issues during projects and understanding environmental legislations and frameworks. I also spent time utilizing my Civil Engineering degree to understand the construction side of projects by working as an Asset Engineer for road and tunneling projects. While my job is giving me the opportunity to learn from industry experts and in understanding complex issues during construction, I have a strong desire to give back to the community and work towards more meaningful solutions.
This has led me to work as a volunteer for Pacific Ark, helping rural communities in Fiji with their water quality issues. I am grateful for this opportunity to apply my knowledge and skills to make a positive difference in the world and hope to inspire people to take care of their environment and live a sustainable happy life.
Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) | Mahatma Gandhi University | Kerala India
Master of Environment Engineering | University of Wollongong (UOW) | Wollongong NSW
